4 day Games Festival Coming Soon To Dundee

DC Thomson, in partnership with Abertay University announce THIS Festival, a four day festival in Dundee.

Kicking off on Thursday the 7th September with the Game Design Awards at Dukes Corner, THIS Festival aims to bring something new and fresh to Dundee.

The Game Design Awards is a celebration of design in games globally, as well as Dundee’s games heritage.  Categories for the awards include Best Character Design and a Players Choice Award.  There will also be a category recognising outstanding lifetime achievement in the games sector, with special emphasis in contribution to game design. The Game Design Awards are now open for nominations.  The shortlist will be announced later this summer.

The evening will include the awards ceremony as well as food, drink, networking and entertainment.  Tickets are available here.  Award categories are available for sponsorship, please contact Dawn Campbell for more information.
THIS Festival takes place from the 7th – 10th September with its base at West Ward Works.

THIS Festival invites industry, academics, students and alumni, developers & game designers as well as the general public to celebrate Dundee’s creative, design and games heritage and to explore exciting, experimental games and game culture.  

On Friday 8th, the festival is aimed at industry and those interested in getting into gaming.  The day includes a conference full of inspiring talks, panels, workshops, and a skills & recruitment fare for games education and employers.  The evening is a night of e-sports at the Abertay Arena where companies are invited to send a team to compete in THIS e-sports tournament, going head-to-head on well-known games to win prizes.

The weekend includes talks and workshops by game experts, indy game exhibitions, Dare Academy and Abertay University students game exhibition, and, on the Saturday the event will welcome DeeCon which includes workshops and talks, fan art, street food, retro games and activities for all the family as well as talks by well-known experts in the animation and comic sector. 

Anyone who loves video games, animation and popular culture will love this event!
