Games Recruitment During the Covid-19 Lockdown: A Top-Down View

We hope you, your friends and families are all keeping well in these unsettling times.

Over the past few weeks we have been focussed on looking after the wellbeing of our team and working hard to understand the shape and scale of hiring during COVID-19. As a specialist in games recruitment, and with our many friends and connections across the industry, Amiqus is in a great position to highlight the challenges, celebrate the positives and offer guidance to studios wishing to continue with their growth plans. What we’re seeing in the market
Demand remains reasonably high and there’s a general appetite to continue with plans to grow studio teams. It’s clear however that there is uncertainty around hiring which, of course, is only to be expected in such strange times!

We’re working hard to build confidence for clients through initiatives such as our enhanced guarantee periods and split invoicing, and we’re finding ways to engage talent in other countries despite current travel restrictions. We understand that hiring remotely comes with challenges and we want to make sure that you’re supported. 

Studio staff are working from home and most have now come through the set-up period and are working productively, as well as learning the best ways to communicate across teams. Hiring whilst working remotely is more demanding, but many are adapting well and we’ve seen some great examples of how clients are managing candidate assessments of both skills and team fit. We’re sharing these insights along with more innovative remote onboarding and team integration ideas as part of our series of #Amiqustoolkit articles to not only help studios grow but also to take their hiring practices to the next level.

Candidates are definitely open to the right opportunities and we’re seeing more focus on specific decision drivers, such as role locations closer to family as priorities change due to the current situation. 


Our commitment during Covid-19
Our focus right now is very simple: To do the best for our team, our clients and candidates. Precisely predicting future demand is impossible so we’ve made some short-term business changes in response, asking some of our team to step back from active resourcing for a little while, and using the support offered by the Government. This is very much a precautionary measure while we take some time to see how demand and supply hold up during lockdown, and as the Government guides the UK exit plan out of the current situation.

We’re a really strong team here at Amiqus and a true work family so the support for one another has been amazing. We’re very proud to be part of what we’ve built together and are pleased that our long-term financial position is solid. We’re looking forward to being together again stronger than ever when this is all over. We’re well placed and motivated to get through this storm.
