Join us for PLAY&TALK

17/06/20

The team here at Amiqus is delighted to get behind Ukie’s fantastic Play&Talk initiative which has been announced today, during National Loneliness Week. It supports the Government’s wider Let’s Talk Loneliness campaign.

The campaign comes at a significant time for everyone in the UK and beyond, with lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic generating feelings of isolation amongst many. Indeed, according to official figures, over 30% of the population – and nearly 51% of 16-24 year olds have felt lonely during this difficult time.

We know that video games have proven a lifeline for many, giving them the opportunity to relieve boredom and also connect with others virtually.

The Play&Talk campaign takes place this weekend (June 20th-21st) and will encourage people to find one hour to play an online game with friends and families – and to talk. Ukie is hoping to use games to spark some 10,000 conversations across the UK to counter loneliness.

Over 50 games companies, plus individuals and influencers, are helping to spread the word about Play&Talk. In addition, the campaign has the backing of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, with Minister for the Creative Industries Caroline Dinenage MP, offering: "Video games have given many of us a form of escapism in lockdown and brought many people together as they connect online. So this weekend, as part of our Let's Talk Loneliness campaign, I encourage people to pick your game of choice, play with family and friends but also take time to talk about how you are feeling and faring. We have to take a variety of approaches to tackle loneliness and I am delighted that the video games sector is on board supporting our important work in this area."

This is another great example of the games industry working together for good – we’ll be taking part in the campaign this week. Join us!
