What if you had One Special Day to Change the World?

26/09/18

Gaming is a world of possibility.

It has the power to change people’s lives for the better. And if you want the perfect example of gaming being harnessed for good, look no further than pioneering gamers’ charity, SpecialEffect and its One Special Day campaign.

Taking place on the 28th of September, One Special Day brings the video games industry together to raise funds that will help SpecialEffect level the playing field for gamers with disabilities. It’s an inspired initiative that sees some of the most amazing games companies donate a day’s revenues to this wonderful cause and one that raised £400,000 in 2017 to fund the work of SpecialEffect’s therapists and technical specialists. These dedicated professionals travel across the UK, providing face-to-face assessments and loans of customised technology to help take the magic of video games to people of all ages. Through adaptive technology, they bring a new lease of life to people with even the most severe physical disabilities, instilling a sense of independence, inclusion and achievement.

It sounds pretty amazing right? But the work of SpecialEffect doesn’t stop there. The charity isn’t just transforming lives. It’s transforming the industry - by passing on what it learns to help hardware and software developers all over the world make their technology easier to use for as many people as possible. By getting behind the One Special Day cause, we can help SpecialEffect have a global impact on video games accessibility. That’s epic stuff.

At Amiqus we’re proud to support SpecialEffect and their incredible team, we’ll be downloading our hearts out on Friday, please take some time to get involved. The games industry is giving the gift of inclusion and a real leap in quality of life for hundreds of people. Want to find out more? Take a look at the dedicated One Special Day website: onespecialday.org.uk and show the world that the gaming industry is loud and proud about changing lives for good.
