This vacancy has now expired.

Amiqus have partnered with DeepMind to help them find an experienced Associate Program Manager.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an outstanding team in a mission driven company. We’re looking for someone with production and/or project management experience helping games, engineering or creative teams be more productive. You will provide dedicated support to DeepMind's Worlds Team who create virtual environments to test and train AI agents, thereby enabling, supporting and accelerating DeepMind’s research mission.

The Team

DeepMind's mission is to "Solve intelligence. Use it to make the world a better place." The Worlds Team provides DeepMind Researchers with the best training and testing environments possible. These range from bespoke mini-games aimed at answering specific research questions, to expansive first-person environments using modern game engines. The Worlds Team is essential in helping steer DeepMind’s research forward.

We design and implement our learning environments carefully as it’s likely we’ll live with them for many years to come so we apply thoughtfulness to everything we do. We take robust design and implementation seriously to ensure the delivery of high quality, repeatable, research environments. You’ll join a close-knit team of hardworking individuals who openly share ideas with one another. Projects we’ve worked on include AlphaGo, DM Lab, and DQN on Atari as well as contributions to countless publications. No machine learning experience is required for this role.

DeepMind's AI systems are the best in the world. They have surprised the world by learning to play video games, mastering the ancient Chinese game of Go, and making inroads into solving protein folding. They are trained to perform visual processing tasks, exhibit cognitive abilities like memory and planning, and can learn to control physical bodies. Much of what you know is of huge value to us as we strive towards creating the challenges which will be used as training environments for increasingly general-purpose learning systems, but there will also be much you will need to learn about the process of learning itself.

If this challenge intrigues you, then get in touch!

About The Role

You'll join the World’s Program Management team and provide support to the Team. You'll report into one of the other Program Managers on the team. This is a support role with three core strands:

Enabling The Team

You will continually develop a deep understanding of people, their preferences, motivators and needs. You will use this understanding to help the Worlds PGM team support and enable individuals to collaborate, grow and develop; and do their best mission focused work.

You will partner with leaders and managers to create the conditions and dynamics needed to create balanced, high performing teams that produce excellent pioneering work.

You will role model the DeepMind values and culture; acting in a supportive, dignified and kind manner towards all other members of DeepMind. You will communicate credibly, articulately and sensitively when presenting information, sharing constructive feedback and challenging established ways of working

You will respond to both challenges and opportunities with curiosity, seeking to get to the cause or objective rather than responding to the presenting issue or topic

Planning & Delivery

You will work within a team of multidisciplinary experts to help products go from conception to successful delivery and ongoing use.

You will help the team to organise its work in the most scalable and sustainable ways using your knowledge of project methodologies to provide prioritisation, scheduling and coordination support.

You will help to make sure that critical information is shared with key decision makers and partners. Tracking issues, writing reports, summarising outcomes from meetings etc.

You will be an ambassador for change, and support others through the change cycle by operating calmly and pragmatically within an ambiguous environment whilst supporting others.

Understanding Environments for AGI Research

Environments play a key role in AGI Research at DeepMind. In Worlds we aim to build deep collaborations with Research teams and to develop a shared understanding of both algorithm and environment design.
The role will provide opportunities to continually deepen your understanding of AGI research and the development of Environments for it. You will use this understanding to inform how you enable people and teams and to help us accelerate and optimize research.
You will help to facilitate connections and collaborations between teams and disciplines. Setting up conversations, communicating outcomes from discussions and looking for new opportunities for people and teams to collaborate.

About You:

  • Experience working in a production or project management role, facilitating teams.
  • Shown administration and scheduling experience
  • Highly organised with the ability to juggle multiple priorities
  • Good understanding of project management and development practices
  • Experience working in a constantly changing and dynamic environment
  • You see what needs to be done and make it happen
  • You are self-aware and seek learning opportunities
  • Games or visual effects background a plus
  • Experience scripting or coding a plus
