I'm partnered with a new Icelandic studio which has raised $2.5 million in a round of seed funding to finance the development of a new open-world game for mobile. The studio has been founded by two well-known leaders within games who have forged a career for themselves in Mobile Games, leading to several successful top grossing games and subseqent buy-outs.

The studio is creating a huge MMO, but aimed at more 'casual' gamers. The CEO said "we are working on the premise that normal people are excited to play and socialise in a massive game world and we are focused on delivering that experience in an accessible way".

They are now looking for a Design Director to help them take their concept develop it into a new experience. They're ideally looking for people with an in-depth knowledge of core loop creation, system design, creating game mechanics and economy balance. You'd be tasked really owning the Game Design Docs - all the while incorporating their wider meta MMO idea.

The studio is based in Iceland, but they're open to somoene working fully remote as long as you're based in the UK or Europe. They'd ideally like someone who can visit Iceland every quarter or so.

To be considered, we'd love to see:

  • Recent and long-term game design experience, ideally within mobile
  • You've worked on multiple titles from ideation to completion
  • Ability to create new, original, ideas but also knowing when not to re-invent the wheel
  • Good communicator; you're upbeat, positive and driven
  • Someone eager to really creatively steer a brand new project

This is a brilliant opportunity to join a well funded and exciting start-up. You'd be working with two very experienced professionals with a track record of success. You'll finally have that chance to really put your stamp on a brand new game from the start.
