A North East based Games studio are currently looking for a Game Designer to work on a range of new VR titles based on huge box office film franchises.

The studio is renowned in the Console/VR industry for creating high end games and have continually set the bar in the market on both single and multiplayer titles.

As the Game Designer, you will be outlining new ideas for the title, such as prototyping, mechanic design, core game design and interactive narration for the users – you must also bring FUN to the games! You will be up to date with present VR trends and enjoy playing and making games.

This role will promote freedom in your work style and will allow you to be creative with your design – the design is at the heart of all their games so it’s important to understand the overall experience of playing the game, rather than focussing solely on the mechanics. Responsibilities

  • Creating and updating the design of a game to achieve the project’s core pillars

  • Taking ownership of, and championing the project’s design direction, both internally and externally

  • Keeping all members of the team up to date on the project’s design

  • Managing a team of designers on a project, prioritizing tasks and streamlining development processes

  • Working with team leads to ensure the development team have the resources needed to build the game

  • Reviewing all design work to ensure it meets the project’s design

  • Ensuring all design documentation is kept organized and up to date

  • Communicating with external collaborators on a project to keep them up to date on the project’s design 

Required

  • Excellent Unity experience

  • Experience developing for VR

  • Basic programming/scripting knowledge

  • Competent writing ability

  • Basic art skills

  • Strong understanding of level design, UX design, and game design fundamentals

  • Ability to work in both small and large teams

  • Strong passion for playing video games across a wide variety of genres, and analyzing what makes them good/bad

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Strong understanding of games market and target audience

  • Confident IT skills

  • Innovative problem-solving skills

  • Ability to adapt quickly to changes and new problems

  • Ability to turn constructive criticism into positive or improved results

  • Experience leading a team on a released title

  • Experience working within project management methodology such as SCRUM 

 

Preferred

  • Designer role on a released Unity-based game

  • Competent/Excellent Programming/scripting knowledge

  • Excellent writing skills and a passion for storytelling

  • Competent/Excellent Art skills

  • Relevant university degree

  • Experience using Atlassian software (Jira, Confluence etc)
