Game Developer

  • Location: Bristol
  • Salary/rate: £60,000 - £80,000
  • Date posted: 26/06/20
  • Job reference: 7856
  • Permanent

We're working with one of the nations best loved and most successful animation houses. They're well known for their Oscar winning cartoons, and are now moving into Game Development; with their creative team and art skills, it's a match made in heaven.  They already have a publishing deal with one of the globe's most prolific game publisher.  They've recently hired a Game Director and are now looking for their Technical Lead. You will be the only game developer working on this project, for the time being, and you along with the Game Director and internal vision holders will be the main shaping force behind this IP.

They're using games like Mario Odyssey, Zelda, Tok Tori 2 and Magic Circle as their inspiration. It will also incorporate the story telling and humour this studio is so well known for. As Tech Lead on this role, you'll be initially tasked with developing a prototype in Unreal Engine; in production, you will lead a team of roughly 5 or 6 programmers, ensuring code quality is of the highest standard, leading the development of game features, lead the pipeline, and generally making the game as good as it possibly can be. Though there will be some management, working with the game producer, we expect this role to be in code every day, tackling the most challenging problems and features.

To be considered for this role, we'd love to see:

  • You've worked on several shipped titles, ideally using Unreal and C++
  • You're a collaborative communicator who can discuss technical ideas with non-technical disciplines
  • Ideally you'd bring your own ideas around the design of this title, how it should look and feel
  • The game development cycle is familiar to you, you know it's pitfalls and what 'good' looks like
  • Genuine passion for games and story-telling

This studio is a company with a grand history and a strong sense of identity. They’re employee owned, which means when you join the company, as full-time or part-time staff, it becomes your company. They care deeply about happiness, and strive constantly for a sensible work/life balance. This is a really superb opportunity which feels like an Indie Start-Up but with the prestige and financial stability of a more established organisation.

Salary is between £60-£80,000 plus generous host of benefits, including relocation if required. They can start this person on a remote basis, with a view to the role eventually being permanently based on site at their fantastic studio in Bristol.
