  • Salary/rate: Up to £60,000 (depending on experience)
  • Date posted: 23/10/19

This vacancy has now expired.

I am exclusively working with a Guildford based Games Company who are expanding their small but efficient code team. The current growth has created a need for an experienced Gameplay Programmer to come on board who shares their ‘big heart, big ideas’ mentality.

You will play a pivotal role not only in the team, but in the company, who provide an empowering, collaborative and fun environment to explore your creative vision and enthusiasm for games. You will be working alongside people who are truly passionate about what they do.

Right now, they are busy building a co-op action RPG game for consoles and PC that looks at the joy of discovery, which very much reflects their ethos as a business.

The role:

  • You will be reporting to and working closely with the Co-Founder/Technical Director
  • You will build critical gameplay features all the way from meeting the design and art needs, to what the player sees on their screen.
  • You will jump into the existing codebase and take ownership over key features
  • You will work closely with both our art and design teams to make their needs a reality

About you:

  • Enjoy working in a variety of gameplay disciplines (controls, scripting, combat and AI)
  • Have 3+ years' industry experience
  • Understand the ‘feel’. That thing that makes a product feel great and puts a smile on someone’s face
  • Come armed with a strong technical background, where your intuition to the ‘what’ is backed up by the ‘why’
  • Show a proactive and motivated approach
  • Be at a strong C++ Level

Bonus Points (the nice to haves but not essentials):

  • An artistic eye married with an ability to express that in code
  • Shipped a game as part of a team
  • Interest in physics, networking and rendering
  • Experience working on a cross-platform project
  • Experience in performance and optimisation
  • Not super-fussed about Object Oriented design
This company truly understands the game industry and get excited about exploring ways to capture people’s imaginations. In six months, you will be fundamental to the success of the game, having designed and built the key code features and become a crucial member of the team.
