Are you a lead developer or technical director? Do you have have recent, hands on, Unity 3D experience?

We're working with one of the UK's fastest growing and most successful mobile games studios; they are also privately owned. The studio was established by two game industry veterans, and from the release of their first game its gone from strength the strength. They focus on mid-core free2play mobile and VR titles; as well as working (mostly) on their own IP, they also do some work-for-hire assignments for larger studios. They now have a need for a Technical Director.

With 5 project teams, including over 20 coders, the studio needs a hands on Technical Director so the CEO can move towards management of the business; something at the moment he isn't able to focus on. In this role, you'd be in at the top table, you'd be helping inform long term tech choices and decisions affecting the studio in the long term. You'd have hiring oversight and a huge say in what direction the studio goes in. Short term, you'd be setting code standards, performing reviews, developing and hiring staff and organising the coding team. You'd work in a team of senior decision makers, including production and art directors.

To be considered for the role, we'd need to see:

  • Strong 'hands on' Unity 3D experience. Ideally worked on several shipped titles
  • Good management and mentoring skills
  • Recent exposure as a Technical Director or equivelant in a similar studio set up
  • Ability to zoom into code reviews/standards and also pull out to review long term changes and architecture
  • Enthusiasm for mid-core mobile titles
  • Ideally some knowledge or experience in back-end, cloud based systems
  • Overall interest in technology, tools and middleware

This is a brand new role for a growing studio, you'd be getting to work hands on as a coder, as well as manage a great team. In addition to this, you'd be working on cool midcore games you'll be proud to show off. The 'Technical Director' title carries huge kudos. The salary on offer, and benefits, are really strong. The studio is brand new, with kit, furniture and a fully stocked kitchen.
