Amiqus are working with the team at Deepmind to attract exception individuals to help them develop virtual research environments, the tools and workflows supporting them and the content built on them. Ultimately you'll be helping to develop complex games to be played by the world's most powerful AIs.
You should have a strong background as a technical artist (or in closely related field) and be inspired by the opportunity to work on a range of challenging problems within a results focused and mission driven team.
The Team
As part of the Research Group, the Worlds Team provides DeepMind Researchers with the best training and testing environments possible, across a variety of platforms. These range from bespoke mini-games aimed at answering specific research questions, to expansive first-person games using modern 3D engines. The output from the Worlds Team is crucial in helping steer DeepMind’s research forward.
Projects we’ve worked on include AlphaGo, DM Lab, and DQN on Atari as well as contributions to countless publications. The team consists of 30+ developers from high profile games and VFX companies including: EA, Sony, Microsoft, Elixir Studios, Lionhead, Criterion Games, Animal Logic and The Foundry.
The Role
You will work closely with Engineers, Design and Art on the Worlds team, as well as directly with Research, to help develop and support learning platforms, their tool chains, and the content built on them. We design and implement our software carefully as it’s likely we’ll live with it for many years to come, we apply thoughtfulness to everything we do. We take robustness seriously to ensure the delivery of high quality, repeatable, research environments. You’ll join a close knit team of talented individuals who openly share ideas with one another.
About You
- Strong technical artist with experience of professional game development
- Extensive experience of a major 3D package (e.g. Max, Maya)
- Extensive experience of 2D package (e.g. Photoshop)
- Good experience optimising content for memory and performance
- Good experience using text and visual scripting systems
- Experience working on console or PC 3D titles
- Experience creating a variety of content types (animations, 3D models, rigging etc)
- Understanding of graphics rendering and game engine workflows
- UE4 and Unity experience a plus
- Enjoy working with others to solve complicated problems to create interactive environments
